Playful communication training in 4 steps: Wienerberger customer case

On March 24, 2025, the Finance team of Wienerberger in De Schorre in Boom for a unique communication workshop of 4 hours. Not just a classical training, but a session where communication skills, personal development and stress reduction were central — and all with a playful, interactive approach.

Wienerberger contacted us with the question:

“How can we as a team better communication in the workplace and receive concrete tools to reduce stress?”

Our answer? A customized workshop, led by two experienced business coaches, with an approach that fully matches our vision: play to communicate.

Wienerberger is a leading international manufacturer of construction and infrastructure solutions, founded in 1819 in Vienna. In Belgium, the company has a strong presence with 13 production sites, 2 showrooms and a head office in Kortrijk. In an organization like Wienerberger, with diverse teams spread across multiple locations, effective communication is essential. It not only promotes collaboration between teams, but also ensures better alignment of goals and processes. Good communication contributes to a culture of openness and trust, which leads to higher employee satisfaction and better performance.

Communication workshop; communication in the workplace

Communication training in the workplace: our approach in four steps

A classical communication education? Not with us. We believe in play to communicate — a playful, experiential approach that leads to real insights, movement and connectedness within teams. During the communication workshop for Wienerberger Finance, our business coaches guided the team through four steps that strengthen communication skills, reduce stress and deepen collaboration.

1. Mindful Check-in: Relax through play

We start consciously and in motion. The workshop started with short, playful mindfulness exercises — breathing, light movement and interaction. No vagueness, but a concrete way to collectively calm down. This 'mindful check-in' laid the foundation for open communication and a safe learning environment. It not only promotes well-being at work, but also increases the focus and presence of each team member.

“A very nice, pleasant, sparkling and refreshing session. A big thumbs up from the whole team!”

2. Physical exercises and communication techniques: stretch, comfort or panic?

Communication in the workplace is not just verbal. Through physical exercises and movement assignments, participants discovered their personal tension arc: what feels comfortable, what is a healthy stretch, and where is the risk of panic? This playful approach made team dynamics visible and tangible. The body became an entry point to discuss communication patterns at a deeper level.

3. Communicating more effectively through games and statements

With a mix of communication techniques, statements and playful working methods we started working with the Lencioni model. The team investigated themes such as trust, openness, involvement, giving feedback and results-oriented collaboration. By play to communicate created space for genuine dialogue and recognition. Participants learned how to better communicate with colleagues and worked together on a shared language for collaboration.

4. Train the trainer: further spreading communication skills

For some enthusiasts we went one step further. How do you, as an internal employee, guide a team to communicate more strongly? In this mini-session we linked our insights to internal communication skills, so that the impact extends beyond one workshop. We bundled the findings into a concise report. In this way, we are more than a drop in the ocean and we help to anchor it.
